Project Description
Mettal Infrastructure was appointed by J Murphey in partnership with Technotrack Engineering to undertake the CAM Anglia Reactive Framework project located on Southend Road, East Ham. The project involved conducting a High Voltage (HV) Assessment and implementing cable protection measures to safeguard vital infrastructure.
The scope of work included the following:
- Supply of an HV Assessor to conduct the HV Assessment.
- Composition of the HV Assessment report.
- Supply of an HV Competent person to oversee the works and assist with cable protection.
- Supply of all necessary plant, tools, and resources for the HV cable protection works.
The primary objective of the project was to protect the HV cable route beneath a bridge deck undergoing repair works. Mettal Infrastructure provided fully enclosed shuttering to shield the cable route from potential damage caused by objects dropped from above during the repair process.
Why it was done:
The client was repairing a bridge deck, and the HV cable route ran directly beneath it. Protecting the cable route was essential to prevent damage from falling debris, ensuring the integrity of the infrastructure.
Why Mettal Infrastructure was appointed:
Mettal Infrastructure’s extensive knowledge of the area and their ability to offer a comprehensive solution in collaboration with Technotrack Engineering made them the ideal choice. We provided expertise in managing all rail system lineside cabling, offering a complete solution to the client’s requirements.
Innovation:
The most innovative aspect of the project was Mettal Infrastructure’s ability to work around live infrastructure cables. By implementing specialist cable protection measures, they facilitated the client’s repair works, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Challenges Overcome:
One of the significant challenges we faced during the project was working around a raised cable route and the client’s access tower. Mettal Infrastructure successfully navigated these obstacles to deliver the project on time and within scope.
